Getting the most out of your tires

According to the National Traffic Safety Administration, if your tires are properly inflated, you can save up to 11 cents per gallon on fuel. Properly inflated, you can extend the life of your tire by as much as 4,700 miles. So, if you're driving around with low tires, you are losing fuel efficiency and money. A common mistake is to over inflate, this may cause excessive wear in the center of your tire. It's a good idea to check your pressure weekly. Consult your vehicle owner's manual for your tire's proper pressure.

You can also get more life and performance out of your tires, by having your Friendly automotive technicians rotate, balance and align your tires. Generally, you should rotate your tires every 5,000 to 8,000 miles or sooner if you see wear tread. Friendly Chevrolet uses precision equipment when we align your tires.

It is essential that you replace tires when their treads are worn down, our technicians can keep you with this. Many tires have "treadwear indicators." Ask a Friendly Chevrolet service representative where to locate these on your tires and how you check it yourself. Nails and bits of metal may not always be visible to the eye, but Friendly Chevrolet can inspect. Proper treads will provide your vehicle with more "grip" during wet or icy conditions.
